1. Project initiation, preparation and coordination
The project has been launched from September 1, 2007. All the partner institutions of the project have signed the MoU with AARM, AIT in order to formalize the cooperation. This project has played a pivotal role in establishing a network or a link among the higher education institutions of Asia and Europe with the commitment of creating links with industries of aquaculture / fisheries sector.
2. Inception meeting
The inception workshop was held during November 27-28, 2007 at AIT, Thailand. This meeting discussed in detail and took decisions on the project launching strategies and made plans for action. All the partner institutions participated in the meeting.
3. Visit to Partner institutions
A visit per year to each Asian partner institutions have been arranged in order to guide local coordinators, make methodology more clear and meet administrative authorities, other instructors and students. At the same time, we will visit the potential host organizations for interns to be placed for work and/or research.

4. European Interns:
- The Project Coordinator attended the World Aquaculture Society 2008 - Busan, South Korea to
present about the project objectives and to create links with other universities. As a result a linkage with Ghent University in Belgium has been established. A student named Ms. Gladys of the Ghent joined and successfully completed the internship in RIA-1, Hanoi, Vietnam. In addition, several students from Ghent and other parts of the world have shown interest in joining internship.
- An internship was arranged in Nam Sai Farms Co. Ltd., Prachinburi, Thailand for Mr. Benjamin Belton,
a student of University of Stirling, UK. He worked at the farm and presented a seminar at AIT on July 15, 2008.
- Two students namely, Sonia and Susana from the University of Aveiro, Portugal arrived on October 31,
2008 and joined internship program. They will be in Thailand until March.

- Mr. Mikael Chevalley from Montpellier, France arrived on 15th March. He met Sonia and Susana in
front of Aqua Outreach Building (See video). He spent at AIT (Thailand) for about 6 months for internship who was involved at the Tilapia hatchery and conducted a trial to compare growth of GIFT and Chitralada strains. This was been a problem of decision making among tilapia farmers as they have to decide whether they choose one against another for their farming. - Ms. Naomi (above right) from Menno Simons College in Winnipeg, Canada completed her internship
at RIA-1 working with Mr. Mai Tai who is doing PhD in environmental aspect of cage culture in Halong Bay of Northern Vietnam under the project.
- Ms. Farah Manji from the University of Stirling completed internship for about 3 months working on
Tilapia disease/health management aspect being based at Nam Sai Farms Co. Ltd., Thailand.
5. Asian interns:
- Five students at IAAS, Nepal have been supported for internship who continued their thesis research.
- Four students at UAF (Ho Chi Minh City) have been supported by the project.

- Five students at RIA-1, Hanoi, Vietnam have completed internship and thesis research under this
program.

6. Status of Asian Instructors for PhD:
- Ms. Truc Luu and Mr. Mai Tai have enrolled at the Univ. of Stirling, UK who are now working in their
home countries for as intern and also carrying on their thesis research.
- Dilip Jha from IAAS, Nepal has completed course work at AIT and has successfully defended his
thesis proposal and candidacy. He has joined IAAS, Nepal to carry out his regular work and then thesis research.
- Mr. Nom Sophearith from RUA, Cambodia has successfully completed all course work and internship
work in Community ( Fisheries Community, Tonle Sap, the Great Lake) who will continue his PhD dissertation work afterwards while being attached with his office work.
7. Progress meeting:
Year II: Progress meeting was organized in Gangjong Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal during January 8-9, 2008. During which detail discussion about the progress and evaluation of intern students was done.

Next progress meeting has been scheduled at AIT on November 25-26 at AIT, Thailand in conjunction with the international symposium in Aquaculture and Fisheries Education organized jointly by Asian Fisheries Society (AFS), Shanghai Ocean University (SOU) and AARM, AIT.
Recent Activities: Project Team is working on to establish internship program Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU), Mymensing, Bangladesh as an expansion plan. Ram visited BAU on 26th August 2009 to initiated the program giving a talk program followed by questions and answers. More than 60 students and faculty members were present during the presentation.
This was followed by curriculum review workshop during 13-15 October 2009. Form AIT side, Amrit Bart, Peter Edwards and Antonio were present while from BAU side, more about 20 lecturers and students were present. First batch of interns is going to start from January 2010. BAU plans to send about 10 students per batch to private fish farms/hatcheries and communities to learn from the field during the internship period.
Year III:
Progress meeting for organized on November 28, 2009 immediately after the International Symposium on Aquaculture and Fisheries Education (ISAFE) at the AIT. During the meeting progress of the Year II was discussed and also activities for the Year III was planned. More importantly, meeting decided to develop a new initiative to submit a proposal for the calls under EACEA (Action II) by adding new partners from Europe and Asia.
